Trade fairs dedicated to hiking

Charmhotel has selected the 2 not-to-be-missed trade fairs for outdoor enthusiasts. We know them well, as we regularly take part in the annual editions of these not-to-be-missed events.

Nature destinations

The show is dedicated to fans of outdoor sports, as well as the general public. It takes place every year in March at Porte de Versailles in Paris.

Nature Destinations covers a wide range of activities: hiking, horse riding, cycling, trekking, trail walking, Nordic walking... Something to inspire you whatever your outdoor leisure pursuits.

Discover the latest news and trends in outdoor activities, dedicated accommodation and other complementary leisure activities. It's a major event for organising your next trip with your club, family, friends or solo.

The hiker's fair

Held at Lyon's Cité Internationale every year in March, this themed trade fair is a multi-faceted affair. It features hiking in all its forms (on foot, by bike, on horseback, Nordic walking, trail walking or trekking), for all levels, from regional walks to treks to the ends of the earth. Enjoy the outdoor spirit! There's a whole host of activities: exhibitions, forums, book signings, workshops, games, introductory courses, film screenings and more.

Exhibitors include accommodation professionals, tourist offices, clubs, associations, equipment manufacturers, equipment distributors, well-known and emerging brands... There's something for every outdoor sports fan.

The Salon du Randonneur gives you ideas for organising your next trip into the great outdoors.

The ideal holiday for hiking and outdoor enthusiasts

Whether you're a first timer or a seasoned sherpa, here are a few ideas to satisfy your passion:

  • Hiking with a roadbook: It shows you how to cross breathtaking natural landscapes and includes all the practical information you need, such as mountain huts, viewpoints to discover, gradients, route times, etc.
  • Explore the themes: We're all familiar with the different types of hiking (geotourism, trekking, snowshoeing, skiing, horse riding, cycling, etc.), but there are now other themes associated with hiking, such as fasting, poetry, ornithology, spiritual retreats, naturopathy, etc. Try other themed categories to vary the pleasures.
  • Combine 2 passions: culture and walking, hiking and gourmet food, the wine route, the sea and hiking, yoga and Nordic walking... Combine 2 interests in 1 stay and double your pleasure.
  • Competitions: Take part in races or trails, or make the most of your hiking holidays to cheer on the athletes, like at the famous UTMB for example.

Technology and hiking

Even if hiking is an invitation to disconnect, technology has come in very handy for hikers these days:

  • Mobile applications that let you find your way around, discover the flora and fauna, measure your progress...
  • GPS trackers to locate you
  • The GPS watch that helps you find your way without a map or handheld GPS unit
  • Water filter bottles to supply you with water wherever you are
  • Connected shelters
  • New materials to create optimum, lightweight equipment.

Progress abounds, and it doesn't necessarily have to be hyper-connected.
